Ghana - Nigeria Reintegration Programme

Returning and reintegrating into the country of origin represents a major challenge for many migrants. Support and prospects are often lacking, which further complicates the process.

Go1School offers a comprehensive reintegration program aimed at facilitating the economic, social and psychological reintegration of returnees:

Socioeconomic conditions:

Nigeria is a country with significant socioeconomic inequalities. Many returnees find themselves in disadvantaged regions and urban areas characterized by poverty, a lack of infrastructure and limited public services, making reintegration even more difficult.

Labor market opportunities:

Unemployment in Nigeria is high, especially among young people. Many returnees also have limited qualifications and struggle to find a place in the job market. The lack of recognition of qualifications obtained abroad is another obstacle.

Support structures:

The range of support structures for returnees is still inadequate. State aid is limited and often difficult to access. Even civil society organizations and self-help groups cannot completely close the gap.

These challenges mean that many returnees have great difficulty reintegrating sustainably into Nigeria. A holistic approach that takes these aspects into account is therefore essential.

Let’s discuss together how Go1school supports returnees in their reintegration.

Gloria Olabisi has many years of experience in integration work with the target group of West African women. She has been working as a social worker in this area for over 10 years.

She has acquired her expertise as a master hairdresser and by obtaining a trainer's certificate (AEVO). She also has five years of professional experience in integration work and has been involved in voluntary work in her church community.

For more than three years, Ms Olabisi has coordinated and led the self-help groups for African women in transitional housing run by the association Go 1 School eV. In this role, she is responsible for:

- Establishment and coordination of self-help groups in neighbourhoods and temporary accommodation

- Documentation of group work

- Guidance and holistic personnel management of the participants

- Design of cooperation relationships on site

- Determination of qualification needs, especially with regard to German language skills

- Implementation of qualification and educational offers

- Advice to participants on how to combine child-rearing and work

- Acquisition of new participants

With her dedicated team and volunteer group leaders with an African migration background, Ms. Olabisi has created considerable added value for the integration of West African women in Bremen in recent years.

Her many years of experience, her in-depth expertise and her good contacts in the African community make Ms. Olabisi the ideal person to coordinate and manage important integration programs in the inclusion of hard-to-reach groups, in reputation management, in the areas of equality and diversity, and in communication.
